Great Eastern (The) Reel

This tune has been a favourite in Ontario for many years. It is named for the ship that laid the first trans-Atlantic telegraph cable in 1865, and was written by Clem Titus, an American performer of that era. It is also known as the "Silver Spire".

There are two very different performances of this tune linked below. 60 years between them.

Circa 1955 - Mel Lavigne, of Honey Harbour, Ontario played with the CKNX Ranch Boys and was the first winner of the Shelburne Fiddle Championship.

2015 - Patti Kusturok and Jullie Fitzgerald - a terrific fiddle duet in a hotel room!
