This song is a good thumbnail sketch of life and work in an Ontario lumbercamp. It was recorded by LaRena in 1969. It probably goes back to the late 19th century. The promise of brevity found in the second line goes unfulfilled. In fact, there are enough verses that one could easily leave out the one containing the racial slur without missing it. I would. It was another time.
