Gay Gordons Medley - Tommy McQueston

Tommy McQueston (1902-2002) plays four marches for the couple dance "The Gay Gordons". Tunes are: The Gay Gordons, The Lovet Scouts, Scotland's Farewell To Ireland, Athlone Highlanders.

Just before he starts playing Sam McVandal brings him a bottle of beer. "Atta boy Sam..."

Tommy was born in Northern Ireland and emigrated to Ontario as a young man. He played for various dance bands over five decades, including George Wade and His Cornhuskers. He remained a strong and active fiddler until his death. Tommy's repertoire included a lot of Scottish material, and he was cited as an influential teacher by Graham Townsend.

He was recorded here by Brian Pickell in about 1980. With Kate Murphy - piano and Ian Bell - guitar.
