This is a set of tune books I found in a box at a flea market on The Bruce Peninsula (near the village of Mar) They all date to the 1880 and 90s. They seem to go together and two are companion volumes of a tune collection published for different instruments. I have the 2nd violin and clarionet [sic] books for "Howe's Western Violin School". These give a rare glimpse at what fiddle tune backup styles might have sounded like in a quadrille band of 1800s.
There is also a Howe's "Diamond School for the Violin" and a 2nd fiddle edition of "Gems of The Ballroom - No. 5" The missing cover of "Howe's Western Violin School for 2nd Violin has been replaced by a part of a poster for a shoe store in Harriston. (Wellington Co.) These books are all from the 1880s and 1890s.
In a separate entry I have matched up some of the tunes from these different books.
