Sorry - I'm not sure who's playing "Varsovianna" here. If you can help me out - please do!
A Polish waltz, popular since the 1850s. Couple dances calls were once a big part of the old-time dance tradition in Ontario. They are seldom danced these days though. They generally are done to their own particular tunes. The figures for the couple dances in the ONTRAD library are all taken from "Alex Mulligan's Collection of Square Dance Calls" edited by Dr. Skye Morrison and Bill Russell (To whom all thanks) This book is still available from the Canadian Olde-Tyme Square Dance Callers' Association. They have a website full of good information. Alex Mulligan was a dance caller, step dancer and folk artist from Bobcaygeon, who taught dancing in Toronto for many years. The dance figure is at the bottom of the page.
