A homemade replacement book cover for one of the Harriston Quadrille Books (see entry) The book of 2nd fiddle parts had lost its original cover and is fitted up with this replacement, made from a poster for a Harriston shoe store. The joke here is the gent singing "Put My Little Shoes Away". The song was written by Charles Pratt and Samuel Mitchell in 1873, and has been recorded by everyone from Bill Monroe to the Everly Bros. It is still in circulation. There's a YouTube link below to Wilf Carter having a go at it. The cartoon of George Brown at the bottom suggests that the drawing is a parody of another well known image.

A sample of the back-up parts in the book.
Strangely - Here's a political cartoon of George Brown in much the same pose.
