A classic Great Lakes shipwreck ballad, sung here by Port Dover commercial fisherman, "Square" Jim MacDonald. (1888-1970) Jim was recorded at a house party in 1961. His evening is preserved on 1/4" reel to reel tape. He also sang a number of other songs ranging from "Danny Boy" to some fairly rude bawdry. The tape is in the collection of the Port Dover Harbour Museum. The Persian was an American schooner that sank on Lake Huron in 1868.
