John Imrie was a Toronto poet and songwriter in the second half of the 19th century. He wrote a great many topical and sentimental works . They include "The Humber Fairy" (about a nymph in the Humber River) a poem about Scottish food and the one below about a salesman. He wasn't a bad poet, but he also possessed an extra little something that guaranteed his literary immortality - he owned his own printing press. There are examples of his work at the bottom. "Imrie's Poems" can be found online at Google Books.
