This is one of the best-known of the lumbercamp songs. O.J. Abbott had worked as a lumberman in his youth. Edith Fowke recorded him singing this in 1957. It's an excellent snapshot of the camp crew and the jobs they did - and has a great tune to boot. This tune is also used for "The Bigler's Cruise". The last verse mentions another song of the era - "The Girl Who Wore the Waterfall". (a fancy hairstyle)
