Mrs. Griffith's Hornpipe is the 4th tune in this medley. (played here on the piano) Played by Anne Lederman and Ian Bell on "Muddy York - Scatter The Ashes" The other tunes are "Reel 17", "The Egg Hornpipe", "Ash Air", and "Lady Montgomery's Reel".
Mrs. Griffith’s Hornpipe - This tune is what’s called a triple hornpipe. In the Ash manuscript the time signature was written as 12/8, but the notes are all the same. It's a very old time signature. Triple hornpipes appear in a lot of 18th century tune books but are less common in 19th century collections. A number of 3/2 tunes can be found in the French-Canadian and Metis fiddle repertoires.
