The first 16 bars of this tune are the melody of the song "Lucy Long", introduced to the stage by the Virgina
Minstrels in 1843. The other two parts are very reminiscent of the arpeggiated music found in 5-string banjo
tutors of the mid-nineteenth century. This is also true of the fouth part of the Boat Mans Dance - also in this
set of Quadrilles. It is identified only as No. 5 in the original manuscript.
