I adapted a traditional tune to fit the words.
Many schooners and other vessels carried horses or mules as part of the crew. They raised the anchors, towed the ship, and powered cranes for loading. The small engines that eventually replaced them were called "donkey engines". This is a song from the Ivan Walton Collection. It was sung for Walton by James Dix of Kingston. There was no tune indicated so I've used the melody of the lumbermen's song "Save Young Money When You're Young".
