The Wounded Hussar - Played by Anne Lederman & Ian Bell It is followed by "Kate of Coleraine" and Garland of Love" - all from the Ash MS.
The Wounded Hussar - Written in the 18th century, this well-known Irish air is attributed to harper Turlough O'Carolan. It was originally called "Captain O'Kane". It also appears in Niel Gow's 4th Collection. Alexander Campbell wrote a set of lyrics to the tune titled "The Wounded Hussar" which told a Napoleonic tale of woe. "Alone on The banks of the dark rolling Danube..." In the Ash Manuscript the was written out with one sharp in the key signature. I have only kept one F# in the second part of the tune.
