John Collver was an early settler in Norfolk County. He published his "Upper Canada Hymn Book" in 1828. This is the first song in the book - a hymn he wrote at the end of the war of 1812, and the Napoleonic Wars in Europe. It was written to be set to a "Short Metre" tune. I have arbitrarily used "Idumea" since it is from roughly that era - and I like it! The arrangement is from "The Original Sacred Harp". The full lyrics are at the bottom of the page. There's a YouTube link to give you an idea how the tune sounds (with Wesley's words)
