Ian Bell plays "Dick's Monymusk" on a single row button accordion in D
Richard "Dick" LePage (1925-2017) was a Quebec-born button accordion player who spent much of his life in Sarnia, where he was an important part of the Franco-Ontarian music scene for many years. His sons Denis and Mitch are both part of the Ontario bluegrass scene. I learned this wonderful crooked version of the Scottish standard "Monymusk" from Dick's playing. I have transcribed it from my own playing, so it is to be viewed through that particular filter. Dick's playing was smoother than mine is. He played it on an A accordion (which puts the tune in its usual key) I play it on a D instrument in the linked sound file. I've included transcriptions and MIDI files in both keys..
