"Back of The Haggard" and "Shropshire Militia Hornpipe" played by Anne Lederman and Ian Bell.
Back of The Haggard This is an "Irish hornpipe" that appears in various settings and under different names including Kevin Joyce's, Standing Abbey, Vinegar Hill, Woodcock. Over the years I've found it to be great tune to play for step dancers doing a clog hornpipe. The haggard on an Irish or Scottish farm is an enclosure in the farmyard for stacking grain. The Ash family came from New York State to Hamilton Township before the year 1797. They were among the first settlers to take up land in Hamilton Township, to the east of Cobourg. Allen Ash was born in Hamilton Township in 1800, and is reported to be the second white child to be native of the township. He grew up to be a farmer, musician and inventor. He died in 1889.
