The "Off To Charlestown Quadrilles" was a set of five dance tunes arranged by British composer Charles D'Albert in about 1860. The melodies were all existing popular tunes from the British Isles and The United States. None are identified by name in the manuscript. This tune is "Limerick Races" with "Johnny Sands" tacked onto the end. Although it is in 6/8 "Limerick Races" is similar to the Newfoundland 2/4 tune "She Said She Couldn't Dance" aka "Running The Goat". G.W. Bennett was an English blacksmith and fiddler who came to Canada in the 1870s. He settled near Midland, Ontario. The manuscript is at the Huronia Museum in Midland.
