Played by Teilhard Frost on a mid-19th century style fretless banjo. Not exactly as written (as it should be!)
The first verse and chorus of this 19th century American song which exists in many forms. It was even recorded by Nat King Cole on a children's album in the 1950s. Some versions are from the minstrel tradition; others are varients of "Froggie Went a Courting". These words are from an undated broadside from Baltimore MD, found online at the Library of Congress. This tune also appears in mid-19th century banjo tutors.
