The Canadian Jubilee Singers were formed in 1878. Inspired by the Fisk Jubilee Singers from Fisk University, William and Sadie Carter organized the group. Their singers were almost all from the Hamilton area of Ontario, Canada. They were a commercial success and toured both Great Britain and the United States. There is a selection of their songs on the PDF. Just to give an idea of the musical style I have provided a YouTube link to a 1909 recording of the original Fisk Jubilee Singers.
