LaRena Clark LaRena (b LeBarr) Clark (1904-1991) was born at LeBarr Landing, near Lake Simcoe, Ont, of French and English-Irish parents,. Raised in various northern Ontario centres (her father and grandfather were hunters, trappers and boat-builders), she learned many songs from her family and developed a large and varied repertoire. She sang ancient ballads, old popular songs, and locally composed folksongs. Her songs were recorded by folklorist Edith Fowke in the early 1960s and she went on to have a brief professional career during the folk revival of that era. She recorded about 10(!) lps of her songs in the 60s and much of the audio material here is taken from those recordings. Edith Fowke and Jay Rahn wrote an excellent book about her called "A Family Heritage". I have recordings of many more of LaRena's songs than are currently posted. I will add them as time permits.
